KOREATOWN, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A man is in custody following an hours-long standoff in Koreatown with Los Angeles SWAT officers early Thursday morning.

It all started with a shots fired call shortly after 12:30 a.m. in the 700 block of Berendo Street, according to LAPD Olympic Division officials.

When officers arrived, they found a man outside an apartment complex who did not want to surrender.

Officers were attempting to negotiate with the man, who, at times, taunted officers but then refused to give up.

At about 5 a.m., authorities from the LAPD confirmed the suspect was tasered and taken into custody. He was seen being taken away by ambulance.

Officials later learned two shots were fired into the ground during an altercation between the suspect and his girlfriend, who was not injured.

Authorities said a weapon was recovered at the scene after the arrest. They thought at one point the weapon may have been in the suspect's pocket, but that information was not immediately confirmed.
