3 small earthquakes strike Gardena area hours apart, USGS says

GARDENA, Calif. (KABC) -- A trio of earthquakes struck the Gardena area on Tuesday morning, rattling the South Bay without prompting any reports of injuries or major damage.

The first quake, whose magnitude was measured at 2.5, occurred at 3:20 a.m., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The next two temblors, both of magnitude 3.0, happened at 7:43 a.m. and 9:31 a.m., respectively.

Shaking was felt in the South Bay to downtown Los Angeles.

South L.A. resident Marci Lee, one of several ABC7 viewers who took to social media after the second incident, said it "felt like someone picked up my house, shook it, then put it back down!"

Ben Reynolds Jr., who lives in Los Angeles, wondered if the seismic activity was a prelude to something more significant.

"That makes the third one in the same spot within the last 12 hours hmm," he wrote on Facebook. "Could it be a prelude to a big one?"
