IRVINE, Calif. (KABC) -- Thirty people had to be evacuated from their apartments in Irvine Wednesday morning after a hot water pipe ruptured, causing a roof collapse and flooding at the newly built complex.

There were about 64 people inside the building when the incident happened around 2 a.m. Wednesday on the 2800 block of Kelvin Street.

One person suffered a minor injury after falling in a stairway, fire officials said.

Apartment management and the American Red Cross are helping displaced residents find a hotel or a vacant apartment to stay in for the meantime.
