LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- An Amber Alert has been issued after a 2-year-old boy was taken from his home in Boyle Heights by his biological father.

Authorities say Edwin Vargas was taken in the 1000 block of Lorena at about 6:30 a.m. The mother, Beatriz Perez, was putting Edwin in his car seat when the suspect pushed her away and took off in her orange Nissan Quest with the boy.

The vehicle was found around 12:30 p.m. in the 5600 block of Hubbard in East L.A., but the father and son were no where to be found.

The suspect was identified as 26-year-old Abraham Vargas. Police said there is a restraining order against the father, and he is not allowed to have the boy. He reportedly told family members that he wants to take the boy to Mexico.

The boy's mother made an impassioned appeal to the father for her son to be returned.
