VENTURA, Calif. (KABC) -- A 24-year-old Ventura man was arrested for attempted rape after he allegedly attacked a woman on a residential street in the city Sunday morning.

Ventura police officers responded to the area of Cameron and Shoshone streets at 11:05 a.m. after several area residents called about a screaming woman.

A female at the scene told responding officers that a man, later identified as Anthony Morales, followed her on several streets for a long distance while she was walking her dogs.

The female confronted Morales, who attacked her and pushed her to the ground and tried to remove her clothes, according to police. The female screamed for help and several neighbors called police.

Officers searched the area, and Morales was located and stopped several blocks away. The female victim identified Morales as the perpetrator. Morales was arrested and booked for attempted rape.
