PHOENIX (KABC) -- One priest was shot and killed and another was injured in an attack at a Catholic church in Phoenix, Ariz., Wednesday night.

According to police, the incident happened around 9 p.m. at the Mother of Mercy Mission.

Authorities say they were responding to a burglary call at the church when they found the two priests severely injured. One later died at the hospital. The other remained hospitalized in critical condition. The names of the victims have not been released.

Investigators say the crime scene was inside the living quarters, not the actual sanctuary.

No arrests have been made. A vehicle believed to be connected to the attack was empty when it was located near the church, police said.
