IRWINDALE, Calif. (KABC) -- An investigation was underway Sunday after the body of a man was found along the 605 Freeway in Irwindale, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

LASD homicide detectives responded to the San Gabriel River wash near the 605 Freeway overpass at Rivergrade Road shortly after 11 a.m. LASD officials said they received a call of a non-responsive person laying on the wash.

Investigators located a body, described only as a man in his 50s, lying in the brush in the riverbed area.

Sheriff's officials said the cause of death was unknown, and the investigation was being handled by the LASD Homicide Bureau.
