POMONA, Calif. (KABC) -- Police are searching for a mother who allegedly abducted her 4-year-old son from his foster care home in Pomona.

According to authorities, Juana Maria Corrigan, 21, showed up to Joshua Corrigan's foster care home Tuesday afternoon, claiming that she received permission from the child's social worker to take him.

When the foster mother became suspicious and refused to hand over the boy, Corrigan allegedly threatened to harm the child if he was not released to her.

Police say Corrigan lost her parental rights when she abandoned the child last year and fled to Mexico.

Joshua was last seen wearing a blue T-shirt, white shorts and tan Timberland boots. It's unknown what kind of car the suspect was driving, so authorities have not issued an Amber Alert.

Police say Corrigan has a history of drug abuse and has been known to travel and live in Mexico. Authorities along the border have been warned.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Corrigan and the boy was asked to call Los Angeles Regional Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
