SAN BERNARDINO, Calif (KABC) -- A search is underway for a suspect who stole a car with a baby inside in San Bernardino on Wednesday. The car and baby have been located, but the suspect remains outstanding.

Authorities said a woman was putting her 1-year-old grandson in a car in the 1500 block of West 7th Street at about 11:30 a.m. when she ran back into the house to get milk. She left the baby in the car with the air conditioner on, police said.

When she came back outside, the car was gone. San Bernardino police say a heavy-set Hispanic man was seen by a neighbor taking off with the car.

Within a half hour, the car was found in the area of Ramona Avenue and 9th Street a few blocks away from the family home, with the child uninjured in the back seat.

Some people were detained, but no arrests have been made.

The man suspected in the carjacking is described as a heavy-set Hispanic man with black pants, a backpack and shirtless.

Anyone with information is asked to call San Bernardino police at (909) 384-5742.
