STAMFORD, Conn. -- Police in Stamford, Connecticut, are searching for a criminal who stole birthday money from a man with autism.

The incident happened around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in Veterans' Park and was caught on surveillance video.

The victim, who was on his way to the Stamford Town Center to purchase video games, was carrying $100 he received as a birthday gift from his family, police said.

On surveillance video, the suspect is seen walking up and speaking to the victim, who excitedly shows the man his money.

The suspect then takes the money and appears to taunt the victim, waving the cash in his face before pretending to put it back into the victim's pocket. He then hugs the victim and walks away.

The victim did not realize the money was taken until it was too late.

Stamford Police Officers, together with the Police Union, have rallied together and started a collection for the victim to get him his money back. Several Stamford citizens have also come forward to contribute as a result of this crime.
