ORANGE, Calif. (KABC) -- A motorcyclist was killed after losing control and crashing into a pole at Katella Avenue and Batavia Street during a high-speed chase in Orange Friday morning.

Authorities attempted to stop a motorcycle rider traveling at high speeds on the 55 Freeway, but the suspect refused to yield and a chase ensued. The suspect reached speeds of 100 miles per hour during the chase before exiting the freeway in Orange.

Authorities lost the suspect on Batavia Street, but a few moments later found the suspect lying on the sidewalk next to the motorcycle.

California Highway Patrol officers attempted CPR, but paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene. Authorities said the suspect lost control of the bike and may have struck a pole near the intersection of Katella Avenue and Batavia Street.
