Compton fire sends 5 firefighters to hospital

COMPTON, Calif. (KABC) -- Five firefighters were sent to the hospital after a roof of a converted garage collapsed during a fire in Compton.

Fire crews were called to the structure in the 800 block of East Laurel Street at around 11:20 p.m. Saturday.

Two firefighters were on top of the roof when it collapsed. Two others were inside when it fell through.

All four were briefly trapped in the debris.

A fifth firefighter was injured while rescuing the others.

Authorities say all five firefighters will recover.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
