DUI suspect crashes, causes explosion in Corona

A DUI suspect crashed into a fire hydrant and electrical vault, causing an explosion in Corona on Saturday.

CORONA, Calif. (KABC) -- A DUI suspect crashed into a fire hydrant and electrical vault, causing an explosion in Corona on Saturday.

Police said the car was traveling northbound on Via Pacifica, just south of Mayfair Drive, around 5 p.m. when the driver hit a hydrant, a telephone box and a power junction box.

Thousands of customers were without power for about an hour.

No one was injured and no other cars were involved in the crash. The driver was arrested for DUI.
