Elderly Los Angeles woman conned out of only source of income
Los Angeles police are searching for a man accused of conning a 92-year-old woman out of her only source of income.

MID-CITY, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A 92-year-old woman was conned out of her only source of income by a man she knew for 40 years and even helped raise.

"I'm mad and disappointed," Mable Miles said. "He's a crook."

Carlson Jackson, 58, lived with Miles for the past year and convinced her to sign legal documents that sold him her eight-unit apartment building in the 1900 block of Palm Grove in Mid-City for a fraction of what it's worth.

In May 2014, Jackson's company, CAJ Properties, LLC, bought the property for $250,000, when it was appraised for between $850,000 to $1 million. He transferred the payment to a joint bank account under his and the woman's name and later withdrew the funds.

Rental checks have also been rerouted to a P.O. Box that Jackson has access to, police said.

Authorities, who received a tip on May 7 about suspected elder fiduciary abuse from adult protective services, said the apartment building was the woman's only source of income and had been her home for 40 years.

Jackson declined to answer questions or cooperate with investigators during a phone call, and has since disappeared.

He was described as 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighing about 290 pounds. Jackson has connections in Detroit and other areas of Michigan.
