Elderly woman stabbed during attempted robbery in Montebello

MONTEBELLO, Calif. (KABC) -- An investigation was underway after an elderly woman was stabbed during an attempted robbery in Montebello Friday night, according to authorities.

The woman in her 60s was alone when she was stabbed at least twice outside her home in the 600 block of North Hendricks Street at about 8:20 p.m.

The victim was taken to a local hospital. Her injuries were considered life-threatening, Montebello police said.

Neighbors said a violent crime like this is really out of the ordinary.

"This is the kind of community where people stroll in the evenings, they walk. Everyone knows each other. It's very friendly. I don't know what's going on," a woman, who did not want to be identified, told Eyewitness News.

Investigators said the suspect was described as a Hispanic male teenager, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, last seen wearing a light-colored jacket and dark jeans.
