LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A former Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputy has been sentenced to three years in state prison for allegedly having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl.

John Augustus Rose II was also ordered to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life as part of the sentence.

Following the Tuesday hearing, the 44-year-old was immediately taken into custody to serve his sentence.

Rose pleaded no contest to child molestation charges on Oct. 21. The charge include one felony count each of committing a lewd act on a child and possession of matter depicting a minor engaging in sexual conduct.

Eleven other sex-related charges were dismissed following a plea.

According to the district attorney's office, Rose met the girl through her family and began a sexual relationship with her in March 2013. The relationship allegedly lasted through June 2013.

Rose worked for the sheriff's department Community Oriented Policing Services Bureau. He was awarded Medal of Valor in 2002 for his role in saving a suicidal and armed woman who became trapped in the Curve Fire.
