BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KABC) -- A small plane was intercepted Thursday afternoon by F-15 fighter jets over San Fernando Valley after the plane fell out of communication over restricted airspace.

Temporary flight restrictions were in effect over the Southland due to President Barack Obama's visit. The Cessna 340 from Bakersfield did not follow a flight plan when it entered restricted airspace at 5:20 p.m., according to North American Aerospace Defense Command officials.

The pilot eventually made contact with the control tower and returned to Bakersfield.

Federal Aviation Administration officials said the breach did not seem intentional. Local law enforcement will determine whether any criminal action will be taken.
