FAA Lifts Flight Restrictions to Israel

The FAA lifted restrictions on U.S. airline flights into and out of Israel's Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv, the agency announced.

The flight restrictions were lifted at 11:45 p.m. ET.

The flight ban had been issued Tuesday after a rocket attack within a mile of the airport outside Tel Aviv.

"Before making this decision, the FAA worked with its U.S. government counterparts to assess the security situation in Israel and carefully reviewed both significant new information and measures the Government of Israel is taking to mitigate potential risks to civil aviation," the FAA said in a statement.

Dozens of flights and hundreds of passengers were affected by the ban, which had been extended Wednesday before the restrictions were lifted.

None of the U.S. carriers has announced the resumption of service to the airport.

EASA, the European Aviation Safety Agency, also announced that it will lift its recommendation for European carriers to avoid flights to Tel Aviv, although British Airways, for one, never discontinued its service.
