BIG BEAR, Calif. (KABC) -- Two female horseback riders who went missing in Big Bear were found near Desert Hot Springs on Monday.

The women had not been heard from since about 10 a.m. Sunday, prompting search and rescue teams set up a command post at Heart Bear Campground.

The riders were later able to contact a family member who was at the command post. They were found uninjured at the Mission Creek Preserve ranger station around 10:30 a.m.

It was not immediately known how the riders wander so far off track.
