RIVERSIDE, Calif. (KABC) -- A former Riverside school administrator was sentenced to 10 years in prison for sexually abusing two former students.
Andrea Cardosa, 41, was arrested last year after one of the former students confronted her on the phone and posted the conversation on YouTube.
Jamie Carrillo, the former student who confronted Cardosa, attended the sentencing hearing.
"As an adult, Ms. Cardosa knew what she was doing was wrong, but she did it anyway," Carrillo said.
The second victim had a statement read in court on her behalf.
"I just want to know why? Why did you manipulate me into thinking that I needed you? You're so sick and you know you don't regret anything. Thank you for ruining my life. There are no words that can truly convey the level of hurt, anger and sadness I have had to endure," the statement said.
Carrillo said she was sexually abused 15 years ago by Cardosa when she was only 12 years old and was a student at Chemawa Middle School. She said Cardosa was her mentor and basketball coach while at the school and that the abuse lasted for several years.
After Carrillo's YouTube video went viral, that is when the second victim stepped forward. She said five years ago she was abused by Cardosa while she attended Tomas Rivera Middle School in Perris.
Carrillo said she hopes her actions help future victims of abuse come forward.
"The good outweighs the bad. There are so many people that have been victimized and they're coming forward and they're saying that they came forward because of me. It just can't get better than that," she said. "I would have liked to have stayed anonymous, but at least I am helping people while I'm up here."
If the case had actually gone to trial, Cardosa would have gone to prison for a much longer sentence if she were convicted on all 16 counts. Instead, she took a plea deal and pleaded guilty to three of those counts, which is why she will serve 10 years in prison.
