INGLEWOOD, Calif. (KABC) -- An armed suspect surrendered to authorities after barricading himself for hours inside an Inglewood home early Saturday morning.

According to the Inglewood Police Department, it all started when officers pulled the suspect over in a routine traffic stop at about 2 a.m.

Authorities said the suspect exited his car, ran away on foot and went inside a residence at Oak and Buckthorn streets. It was unknown if the home was the suspect's residence.

Officers reported seeing a handgun during the traffic stop.

SWAT was called to the scene, and nearby residents were evacuated. Investigators called the suspect "Daniel" during their back-and-forth with the suspect, trying to convince him to exit the house, but his identity was not immediately released.

Shortly before 8 a.m., the suspect surrendered peacefully to police. His motive for fleeing the traffic stop was unknown.

Cedar to Buckthorn and Oak to Buckthorn were closed during the investigation.
