Jewelry store owner shoots armed robber in Thousand Oaks
The owner of a Thousand Oaks jewelry store exchanged gunfire with a man who attempted to rob him.

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (KABC) -- The owner of a jewelry store in Thousand Oaks exchanged gunfire with a man who attempted to rob him Tuesday afternoon, according to Ventura County sheriff's deputies.

The suspect, armed with a gun, entered Albert's Jewelry Designs in the 2000 block of East Avenida de los Arboles around 1:15 p.m., deputies said.

He attempted to rob the store, but owner was also armed with a gun. Both fired weapons at each other and the suspect was wounded before fleeing. He got into a car driven by another person and they fled, deputies said.

The store owner was not hurt in the gunfight.

Investigators are trying to piece together details of the confrontation, including how many bullets were fired and who shot first, as well as a description of the suspect.
