Armed man barricaded in La Puente condo complex
Several homes were evacuated in La Puente early Sunday after an armed man barricaded himself inside a condominium complex following a domestic violence incident.

LA PUENTE, Calif. (KABC) -- An armed man who barricaded himself inside a condominium complex in La Puente following a domestic violence incident was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The suspect had been holed up in the garage of his condo in the 900 block of Willow Avenue since about 1 a.m., according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The victim, identified by sheriff's deputies as the suspect's wife or live-in girlfriend, was able to leave the condo and is reportedly safe. Details on her injuries were not immediately released.

Surrounding homes were evacuated for the safety of the residents and a helicopter was circling overhead. Neighbors told Eyewitness News the couple had moved to the condo complex a few months ago.

A loud bang was heard at about 6:30 a.m., but officials have yet to confirm whether that single bang was SWAT deploying tear gas or the sound of a gunshot. SWAT officials had surrounded the condo and were trying "to bring the situation to a peaceful resolution."

The suspect was confirmed dead shortly before 2 p.m.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Industry Station at (626) 330-3322.
