LAPD detective found dead after molestation accusations

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A Los Angeles Police Department detective, who faced accusations of molesting two relatives, has taken his own life, authorities said.

The Los Angeles County Coroner's Office confirmed that Detective Dennis Derr was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in his car in a Walmart parking lot in Palmdale on Thanksgiving morning.

The Special Victim's Bureau of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is investigating a sexual abuse case involving Derr.

LAPD officials said Derr, 52, was last assigned to the Van Nuys Division.
