VENICE, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A 25-year-old woman was run over by a Los Angeles County lifeguard truck while sunbathing at Venice Beach on Monday.
The incident happened at 4:20 p.m. near the breakwater tower. Authorities say the lifeguard truck responded to an emergency call about swimmers getting too close to rocks.
Lorae Bermudez of Whittier was accidentally run over by the truck as the lifeguard was driving away from the incident. Officials say the truck did not have lights or sirens on at the time.
The driver immediately stopped and rendered aid. Bermudez was rushed to a local hospital, where she was listed in stable condition.
Among the injuries she suffered were fractures and internal organ lacerations.
This was the second time a sunbather was struck by a vehicle this year. In May, a 49-year-old woman was seriously injured when an L.A. County beach maintenance vehicle hit her as she was relaxing face down in the sand.
