Long Beach girl's companion dog stolen in carjacking

LONG BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- The Long Beach Police Department is trying help to find a companion dog that was inside a vehicle when it was stolen.

A woman parked her car at a shopping center in Long Beach Tuesday evening to pick up a prescription for her daughter, who relies on the dog for her medical condition.

Surveillance video shows the car being driven away minutes after the woman and her daughter left it. A white pickup truck was seen following the car.

The stolen vehicle was found at a shopping center parking lot near Artesia and Lakewood boulevards, but the dog, Sandy, is still missing.

"Take him to the pound, take him to a police station, just give him back because I need him. He means the whole wide world to me. He was my best friend. He's what I got up for in the morning and for what I look forward to when I wake up and do my homework," said Emily Thompson, Sandy's owner.
