Man killed in officer-involved shooting on 215 Freeway

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (KABC) -- A man was killed in an officer-involved shooting in Riverside early Saturday morning.

The incident took place in the northbound lanes of the 215 Freeway, just north of Center Street, shortly before 2 a.m. CHP officers attempted to pull over a silver pick-up truck when the situation escalated and resulted in a shooting.

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is unclear why the traffic stop was made or if the driver was armed. No officers were injured in the shooting.

The northbound 215 Freeway was shut down at Center Drive to La Cadena Drive for several hours.

The Riverside County Sheriff's Department was handling the investigation.
