Man shot to death while sitting in car in Duarte

DUARTE, Calif. (KABC) -- A 28-year-old man was shot to death in Duarte Monday afternoon.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department homicide detectives responded to the 800 block of Lewiston Street around 5:40 p.m.

During the preliminary investigation, detectives learned the victim was sitting in the driver's seat when an unknown suspect came up from behind and fired several rounds into the car from a handgun. The suspect then fled on foot.

The victim, identified as Duarte resident Efrin Murillo, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation was ongoing.
