MALIBU, Calif. (KABC) -- A motorist found injured but alive in a crashed car in a Malibu canyon Wednesday was confirmed by officials to be a Simi Valley woman gone missing two days ago.

According to the Los Angeles County Fire Department, the car went approximately 50 feet over the side of a cliff near Latigo Canyon Road and Newton Motorway.

A person who was walking their dog heard the woman screaming for help, spotted the white SUV down an embankment and called 911.

Firefighters arrived on scene around 9:30 a.m. The woman was treated at the scene and then carefully hoisted up the side of the cliff.

Rescuers on scene said the woman was alert and talking and suffered moderate injuries. She was airlifted to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center for treatment.

Cmdr. David Livingstone with Simi Valley police confirmed to Eyewitness News that the person who was rescued is Jennifer Duron, who has been missing for two days.

Duron, 40, was last seen leaving her home in Simi Valley on Monday in her 2014 white Kia Sorento. She had told family members she was going for a run at a beach in Malibu.

When she was finished she sent a text to her husband letting him know she was returning home, but that's when something went wrong. According to the California Highway Patrol, Duron lost control of her SUV and ended up 50 feet below.

Livingstone said investigators used the car's description and license plate to confirm Duron's identity.

"She's in good spirits for what she's gone through," said Duron's father, Michael Daruty.
