Palmdale pursuit ends with PIT maneuver; 2 in custody
California Highway Patrol officers used a PIT maneuver to stop the driver of a silver Scion who led them on a pursuit through Palmdale Thursday.

PALMDALE, Calif. (KABC) -- A driver and a female passenger were taken into custody after leading Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies and California Highway Patrol officers on a 20-minute pursuit through Palmdale Thursday afternoon.

The vehicle lost a front tire, possibly due to running over a spike strip. A second tire quickly went flat, but the suspect continued driving on the wheel rim.

The pursuit ended shortly after 5 p.m. after CHP officers successfully pitted the silver Toyota Scion, which spun out before coming to a stop at Avenue O near the Antelope Valley Mall.

Several units pulled up and surrounded the vehicle. The male suspect quickly put his hands up as more than a dozen CHP officers and deputies drew their guns.

The driver and passenger doors of the Scion opened as the suspects complied with officers' instructions. The two suspects were promptly taken into custody.

No information on what led up to the pursuit has been released.
