MISSION VIEJO, Calif. (KABC) -- One person was electrocuted at the practice field at Mission Viejo High School Thursday afternoon and a second person was hospitalized for electrical shock.

The first person came into contact with a power line and was pronounced dead at a hospital.

The second person tried to help the first person and also came in contact with the power line. That person was thrown 25 feet to the ground. The second person was hospitalized in critical condition.

The two people were hanging a banner about 25 to 30 feet off the ground.

The two people, both in their 20s, are not connected to the high school, according to the Orange County Fire Authority.

Both people were transported to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo.
