HIGHLAND, Calif. (KABC) -- A rock or a chunk of concrete smashed into the windshield of a truck that a mother of two was driving on the eastbound 210 Freeway Sunday night.

Fanny Marroquin's windshield shattered as she was driving near Highway 330, she said.

"I was able to put my hand on my face to cover my eyes and then that's the moment I kind of went slow and pulled over to my right side," she said.

There were no cars behind her as she pulled over, and only two cars were up ahead. Once she steered her pickup truck to safety, she felt the pain from the shards of glass.

The shards had cut her face and scraped her 2-year-old son's nose. He and his brother were in the backseat.

Marroquin drove to a nearby gas station to get help. Paramedics brought her to a local hospital to remove the bits of glass.

"They had to cut me more so they would be able to take them off because I had some inside my lips and inside my mouth, too," Marroquin said.

Authorities responded to the scene, but Marroquin was unable to give them any information on a possible suspect. It was dark at the time and she did not see where the object came from, but she doesn't believe the object accidentally flew into her windshield.
