San Bernardino 911 Dispatcher Invited to State of the Union

A San Bernardino, California, 911 dispatcher who helped direct the emergency response as terror unfolded during last month's mass shooting is headed to Washington, D.C., to attend President Obama's final State of the Union address on Tuesday.

Annie Teall, a dispatcher who has been with the San Bernardino Police Department for 20 years, was the main dispatcher on Dec. 2 when two shooters unleashed an attack on the city's Inland Regional Center, San Bernardino police department spokeswoman Eileen Hards told ABC News.

Teall is credited with remaining calm during the crisis that left 14 people dead, according to ABC station KABC-TV in Los Angeles.

She told KABC-TV her team also "had a very big part in the whole thing."

"I happen to be the voice, but they were the work behind it all," Teall said.

There are about four to five dispatchers at any given time, Hards told ABC News.

After California Rep. Norma Torres -- who is also a former dispatcher -- toured the dispatch center, she invited Teall to be her guest for the State of the Union on Jan. 12, KABC-TV reported.

San Bernardino Police Chief Jarrod Burguan and San Bernardino County Sheriff John McMahon will also be attending the State of the Union, Hards told ABC News.

"It's an opportunity that very few people get and it's an honor," Teall told KABC-TV. Teall could not be immediately reached by ABC News for comment.
