SAN FERNANDO, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A San Fernando man has died after being severely beaten by an alleged carjacker outside his home.

Los Angeles police officers were called at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday to the 11300 block of Acala Avenue. Dario Rosas, 57, had parked his 1997 Toyota Rav 4 outside his home, when the suspect attacked him.

The suspect then took Rosas' car and drove away. It was later found in Panorama City and impounded as evidence.

Rosas was taken to a hospital, where he later died of his injuries.

It was unclear if the suspect knew Rosas.

Rosas worked as a security guard at Encino Hospital. Neighbors described him as a kind, friendly man who lived a quiet life.

His sister Virginia Kelly, who lives in Florida, said her brother took care of her elderly mother, who suffers from several health issues.

"He didn't bother anybody. He just took care of my mom and now my mom is devastated," Kelly said.

Anyone with information is urged to call Det. Gene Parshall, Mission Homicide Unit, at (818) 838-9954.
