These school signs have stirred a lot of conversation (KTRK)

A Texas school district situated nearly half an hour from its closest law enforcement office has posted signs on school campuses warning their teachers may be armed with guns.

Medina Independent School District Superintendent Penny White says it wants to make anyone think twice before they think of harming any one of their 303 students.

"You never know if there's a transient of someone who has zeroed in on harming a child," White says.

The signs went up last Wednesday and have been the talk of the town ever since.

They read: "Attention, please be aware that the staff at Medina ISD may be armed and will use whatever force is necessary to protect our students."

"Schools have been a target for, for lack of a better word, crazy people, and I'm perfectly fine with it," says Jillian Sides, whose two kids attend Medina schools.

The general consensus is positive among residents of this community just outside San Antonio, but one mother had some concerns.

"I don't know if that's asking for trouble or not," Alisha Reagan says. "I mean, you post a sign like that, it may bring trouble unfortunately."

The district would not say how many staff members if any are actually armed, but says it is taking the safety of its students and employees seriously.
