LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy pleaded no contest to child sexual molestation Tuesday for having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl, the L.A. County District Attorney's Office announced.

John Augustus Rose II, 44, faces three years in state prison and will be ordered to register as a sex offender for life, according to the D.A.'s Office. Rose is scheduled to be sentenced on November 26.

Rose began a sexual relationship with the 15-year-old girl in March 2013 that continued through June 2013. The two met through her family, the D.A.'s Office said.

Rose, a 22-year veteran of the sheriff's department, pleaded no contest to one count of lewd act on a child and one count of possession of matter depicting minor engaging in sexual conduct.

Rose was originally charged in 2013 with 17 felony counts, including four counts of lewd act on a child, six counts of sexual penetration by a foreign object, five counts of oral copulation of a person under 16, one count of contact with a minor for sexual offense and one count of possession of matter depicting minor engaging in sexual conduct.

Rose worked for the sheriff's department Community Oriented Policing Services Bureau. He was awarded Medal of Valor in 2002 for his role in saving a suicidal and armed woman who became trapped in the Curve Fire.
