Skateboarding teen fatally struck by SUV in Lake Forest

LAKE FOREST, Calif. (KABC) -- A 16-year-old boy chasing a skateboard into traffic died after being struck by an SUV in Lake Forest Monday night.

The teen chased his skateboard into traffic lanes on Trabuco Road, north of Cherry Avenue, at about 6:20 p.m. He was struck by an Acura SUV traveling southbound.

The teen was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The SUV driver remained on the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Alcohol or drugs did not appear to be a factor on the part of the driver, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Department.

The skateboarder was identified as 16-year-old Mission Viejo resident David Valerio.
