SoCal Gas project shuts lanes on Sepulveda Boulevard, may jam Westside traffic

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A SoCal Gas Co. project has shut down lanes on Sepulveda Boulevard near Skirball Center Drive, and the closure may impact traffic for Westside commuters.

The project, which aims to install a gas pipeline along Sepulveda Boulevard at Skirball Center Drive in the Sepulveda Pass, began at around 5 p.m. Sunday. As a result, traffic on the Sepulveda Pass and the northbound 405 Freeway moved at a crawl Sunday afternoon.

According to SoCal Gas, this maintenance is essential in providing an adequate supply of natural gas to meet increased summer demand.

Only one lane will be open on both sides Sepulveda Boulevard at the top of the Sepulveda Pass through Monday and into Tuesday evening, according to SoCal Gas.

Off-ramps from the southbound 405 Freeway at Skirball Center Drive will be reduced from three lanes to one, officials said. Traffic may also be restricted on the on-ramps to the south 405 Freeway.

Commuters were advised to use alternate routes.
