SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (KABC) -- A suspect has been detained for questioning in connection to a shooting involving him and an off-duty LAPD officer while they were in their cars in Santa Clarita Sunday.
The shooting occurred at about 10:10 a.m. at a stop sign on Rainbow Glen Canyon and Swallow Court. The suspect's small white car drove up next to the off-duty officer's car and the officer fired multiple shots at the other man, authorities said.
It was unclear what caused the 25-year veteran police officer to open fire. Authorities initially said that the man pulled up next to the off-duty officer's car and began shooting first.
LAPD Det. Meghan Aguilar said it was unclear if the suspect was even armed. No injuries were reported.
The suspect then fled the scene. His white car is said to have accident damage as well as a bullet hole on the front end.
The suspect was cooperating with authorities and the investigation is ongoing.
The officer works in the gang and narcotics division.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff Station at (661) 255-1121.
