LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The Los Angeles Police Department has released a composite sketch of a suspect who scaled a chain-link fence and attempted to kidnap two children, ages 2 and 3, as they played outside their home Monday night.

The incident occurred in the 1700 block of S. Westmoreland Boulevard at about 6:50 p.m.

Police say the two victims were playing with about five other children in the courtyard of their apartment complex when the suspect scaled a chain-link fence and grabbed them.

As the suspect attempted to leave the scene with the two boys, the other kids, including a sister, screamed, prompting the suspect to drop the victims and flee on foot.

"I was playing outside with my friend and then somebody came and he carried my friend and my brother. Then I started pulling them away from the guy. I thought he was going to take them and kill them," said Michelle Ramos, who is the sister of one of the victims.

He was described as a Hispanic man, approximately 25 years old, standing about 6 feet tall, weighing about 150 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

The suspect was last seen wearing a wide-brimmed hat, dark sunglasses, a red T-shirt, blue jeans and white shoes. He may have had blue dental braces.

Anyone with information was urged to contact LAPD's Olympic Area Robbery Detectives at (213) 382-9460.
