STUDIO CITY, Calif. (KABC) -- One person was detained Tuesday night in connection to a suspicious package reported on the 101 Freeway in Studio City that shut down all lanes in both directions.
California Highway Patrol officers responded to a collision at about 6 p.m. on the southbound portion of the freeway near Barham Boulevard. A bomb squad from the Los Angeles Police Department was called after investigators noticed smoke exuding from the car. No explosive device was found.
Southbound lanes were diverted off Lankershim Boulevard and northbound lanes were diverted at the Universal Studios off-ramp, leaving traffic backed up for miles.
Northbound lanes were reopened shortly after 8:30 p.m. Southbound lanes were reopened around 9:15 p.m.
The investigation is ongoing. No further information has been released.
