VERMONT SQUARE, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A teenager was in critical condition Friday morning after being shot while he was inside a car in South Los Angeles, authorities said.

A caller reported the gunfire shortly before 1 a.m. in the area of 45th Street and Vermont Avenue, according to a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department's 77th Street Division.

Three passengers were inside the sedan when a suspect shot into it, striking one of them in the head, the LAPD said. The victim was transported to a hospital.

No description of the shooter was immediately available.
