PALMDALE, Calif. (KABC) -- Three people were detained Saturday in connection with a drive-by shooting in Palmdale of two people, including a teenage girl, sheriff's officials said Friday.

Jaime Espinoza, 20, Fernando Albarran, 21, were both booked on attempted murder charges and were being held in lieu of $500,000 bail. A third detained suspect was released pending further investigation.

The shooting happened around 12 p.m. Friday near Melton Ave at Avenue R. The suspects fired a round as the girl was getting out of the car from the passenger's seat. The shot went through one of the car windows, striking the girl in the back of the head, authorities said. A second occupant was also hit.

The girl was taken to Antelope Valley Hospital where she underwent surgery. She was said to be in extremely critical condition.

The driver suffered minor injuries from shattered glass.

The girl does not have any known or suspected gang affiliation, authorities said. The suspects are believed to have gang affiliation.

So far deputies have three people detained. The car believed to have been involved in the shooting has also been recovered.

"We don't know their involvement at this point, but we believe that the vehicle they were in was the vehicle involved in the shooting," said Los Angeles Sheriff's Department Lt. Dave Dolson.

Sheriff's officials believe a high-powered hand-gun was used.
