SHERMAN OAKS, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Los Angeles police are searching for thieves who were caught on camera stealing parts from a luxury SUV at a home in Sherman Oaks.

Police say the suspects stole the expensive lights and grille off of a brand new 2014 Mercedes-Benz G63 around 2:00 a.m. Sunday.

The homeowner, who did not want to be identified, says she didn't notice the theft until the following afternoon. She says the thieves hopped a gated area even though there were surveillance cameras, and it's clear they knew what they were doing.

"They had the equipment and the skills to be able to take apart a car like this," she said. "It's not a regular type of car. People that work in body shops, they would know how to do this really quick."

She says the grille alone is worth $25,000. The front lights are each $5,000 to $6,000, and the back lights are about $1,000 apiece.

The woman left her purse and camera equipment in the vehicle but none of that was stolen.
