CLINTON, Massachusetts (KABC) -- A hot air balloon ride ended in disaster when it crashed into power lines and caused an explosion in a Massachusetts neighborhood.

The low-flying balloon was coming in for a landing at about 7:40 p.m. Saturday in Clinton, Massachusetts when it hit power lines and triggered a loud explosion.

"A big flash of red right in front of you and then another one a couple seconds afterwards. I've never seen anything like it and I'm still shaken from it," said Jose Papaleo, who witnessed the event.

Five people on board were burned. The crash knocked out power to 750 homes.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident.
