RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, Calif. (KABC) -- A 69-year-old Orange County man was killed when his plane crashed in a remote area of Anza-Borrego Desert State Park.

Max John Mizejewski, a Rancho Santa Margarita resident, was found near the wreckage of the crashed Cessna plane at 7:10 a.m. Saturday.

Mizejewski had rented the Cessna in Riverside County.

Family members reported the plane missing Friday when Mizejewski did not return from what was supposed to be a two-hour trip. It was spotted crashed and upside down by a Civil Air Patrol aircraft in a desolate area known as Borrego Badlands.

Mizejewki was an Army helicopter pilot during the Vietnam War.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the crash.
