"Violence in the City": Remembering the Watts riots 50 years later

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The Watts riots began April 11, 1965. The following week of turmoil killed 34 people and injured more than 1,000.

There was more than $40 million in property damage, and at least 1,000 buildings were damaged or destroyed in a 46-square-mile area of Los Angeles.

Fifty years after the rioting threw Los Angeles into six days of terror and violence, Adrienne Alpert looks back at how the rioting started and how it has changed the city.
