BURBANK, Calif. (KABC) -- Firefighters worked to repair a massive sinkhole following a water main break in Burbank Tuesday. The incident caused traffic trouble and flooded some residential streets.

The water main ruptured at the Burbank Fire Department training center at Victory Boulevard and Ontario Street around 5:19 p.m. It poured about 8 to 12 inches of water onto streets and caused a sinkhole in the parking lot.

Nearby streets were closed, as crews worked to shut off the water. From rafts to surfboards to boogie boards, residents made the most of the roadway river.

The cause of the water main break remains unknown. No homes or cars were damaged, but the training facility, which also functions as the city's emergency operations center, has tens of thousands of dollars in damage.
