Willowbrook fatal hit-and-run crash suspect sought

WILLOWBROOK, Calif. (KABC) -- A South Gate woman was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver in a pickup truck on the eastbound 105 Freeway in Willowbrook.

California Highway Patrol said the woman, 61, was standing outside of a black 1990 Mercury Cougar in the far right lane of the freeway near Wilmington Avenue around 11:45 p.m. Thursday.

According to the CHP, the woman was struck by a dark colored pickup truck. Authorities said the impact threw the victim into traffic lanes. The driver of that truck fled eastbound on the 105.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. The victim's name was not immediately released. Several lanes were shut down at the time of the incident but all have since reopened.

The hit-and-run vehicle was described as maroon and likely having moderate to major front-end damage.
