SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KABC) -- In a macabre incident that occurred almost two weeks before Halloween, a homeless woman in Sacramento led police to the remains of a dead person after she was spotted walking down a street with a human skull on a stick.

The woman was seen Wednesday in the 2900 block of Connie Drive, the Sacramento Police Department told KTXL.

Officers stopped the transient at an abandoned house.

"A call like this is not something that happens every day. We hope we can get down to the bottom of what caused this person to become deceased," police Sgt. Bryce Heilein said in an interview. "She brought the officers to the area where she located the skull."

When they arrived at a homeless camp two blocks away, the officers found the rest of the decomposing body.

Sacramento County coroner's officials are expected to identify the deceased person and determine the cause of death.
